Merudanda="spine," from meru="central"+danda="rod". Begin in Dandasana. Lean back about 45º, moving palms backward for support as needed, while raising your legs to 45º so legs balance torso (trapyasana, trapya="trap.") Split your legs to 90º. Grab your ankles or big toes, keeping your legs as straight as you can, and balance on your butt, arms pulling legs high.
